Built from the Ground Up
Universal MetalCraft was founded by Viktor Wenstrom — born in Ukraine of Swedish descent. During the war, his father was mobilized by Krupp Industries, which had taken over the steel industry in Ukraine. The family ended up in Germany in 1945, where Viktor attended the Machine Bau School in Ansbach.
After receiving a visa, Viktor immigrated to the United States in 1959. He joined the National Guard Engineer Corps in New Jersey and attended Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) at night for mechanical engineering — while working days at Thermo Electric Company, who sponsored his tuition. He rose from Designer to Chief Engineer over 20 years.
In 1972, Viktor founded Universal MetalCraft, Inc., specializing in designing and building specialized machinery. A flagship product line served the Automobile Brake Industry — disc pad drilling machines, riveting machines, grinding machines, and custom-spec equipment. These machines went to work in the United States, Mexico, Japan, and South America.
